Lee Anne McGonagle Malott, 72, died on October 15, 2011 in Seattle, as a result of complications of cancer. She was born May 28, 1939, in Duluth, Minnesota, and moved to Washington at the age of 2. As a young girl she was active in the Girl Scouts of America and Job's Daughters International. In Seattle, Lee Anne attended Lake City Elementary, Jane Adams Junior High, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957. Malott, 72, died on October 15, 2011 in
Seattle, as a result of complications of
cancer. She was born May 28, 1939, in
Duluth, Minnesota, and moved to Washington
at the age of 2. As a young girl she was
active in the Girl Scouts of America and
Job's Daughters International. In Seattle,
Lee Anne attended Lake City Elementary, Jane
Adams Junior High, and graduated from
Roosevelt High School in 1957. She then
graduated from the University of Washington
with a Bachelor's of Science in Microbiology
in 1961, and later received a Masters Decree
in Public Health Administration from the
University of Michigan in 1968. Lee Anne
returned to the University of Washington and
worked in the Department of Laboratory
Medicine for 30 years, retiring as an
Associate Professor of Medicine in 1999. She
was a recognized leader and mentor in her
field of medicine.
Lee Anne remained active in her college
sorority, Kappa Delta, and served as Board
Chairperson. Her hobbies over the years
included snow skiing, scuba diving, boating,
bird watching, knitting, sewing, cooking,
and entertaining. She married Dr. Ralph
Malott, M.D., a widower, in 1978, and was a
devoted mother to his three children. Lee
Anne and her husband enjoyed traveling and
visited China on repeated occasions, as well
as Europe and Africa. They had a special
vacation home on the Oregon coast, which was
a frequent retreat for friends and family.
Lee Anne was a very organized and extremely
talented person in many disciplines,
including her profession, homemaking, and
handcrafts. Many friends and family members
were recipients of her special gifts. It
seemed that she hardly wasted a minute.
She was pre-deceased by her parents,
Elizabeth Willox and Lee S. McGonagle; and
her step-son, Ray Malott and she is survived
by her devoted husband of 33 years, Dr.
Ralph Malott; step-children, Lisa Douglas
and Steve Malott; grandchildren, Jake
Douglas, Pauline Douglas, and Kenneth Malott;
brother, William S. McGonagle; and
step-brother, Darwin Taylor, together with
many cousins. A memorial service is planned
at Christ Episcopal Church at 4548 Brooklyn
Avenue, in the University District in
Seattle, on Friday, November 4th at 3PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made
to the McGonagle Malott Endowed Scholarship
Fund.
